Just Us

I'm always sad when a vacation is over and it's time to get back into real life again. This Thanksgiving was about as perfect as it could have been. It was the first time we have ever had Thanksgiving dinner with just our little family. Everything was calm, and relaxed with no pressure to impress or please anyone. I do love big family gatherings, but for this year, we really needed to just be us.

Stuck

Having twins has changed my life completely. I work harder, feel more sleep deprived, and have to be better organized than ever before. When I am the sole adult at home, usually before I sit down to feed the babies, I make sure I have everything I might possibly need while they are eating. Usually I grab both phones (cell and land line), all necessary remote controls, burp rags, diapers, wipes, my netbook, blankets, and 2 snacks (one for me, one for Lucas). Well, tonight, my hubby was here and the 3 big kids were upstairs just waiting for me to ask for them to bring me something, so I settled down with both babies to give them their bedtime bottles, WITHOUT preparing first! About 3 minutes in, Isaac had to go do something as Bishop and the big kids all went downstairs to finish a game they had started before dinner. I soon found myself with one baby sound asleep on my chest with the other propped against my leg still sucking away on his bottle. Granted, all the paraphernalia I normally surround myself with wouldn't have done much for this situation, but if I'd known I would be alone, I would have positioned us all so that I could escape easily if needed. I strategized for about a minute until I realized that being "stuck" might actually not be bad. So, I snuggled more closely with sleeping baby and looked lovingly at eating baby, then leaned my head back and closed my eyes for a whole blessed 5 minutes! Miraculously the phone didn't ring, the kids all stayed happily downstairs, baby didn't wake up, and nothing exploded. And THAT is what true peace is!

Finally Online

After much pressure from friends and family, I finally have a blog. Wonder how it will go....
At any rate, since Halloween has come and gone one more year, these can be my very first posted pictures. I'm not really a fan of the Halloween holiday. I don't understand why we dress our children in various costumes and take them door to door begging for candy. What makes it ok on that particular night? I won't, for instance, send my children out tonight to ask my neighbors for treats. My husband and my children, however, absolutely love it, so I play along. And then I eat all their good candy everytime I walk by their stashes when they are away at school. So I guess it can't be all bad.
